Following the successful start of the project with the newly developed BTF-S food belt dryer, our customer Steinicke Metz GmbH in Herxheim quickly moved on to the next phase: delivery and installation of the drying system. As with the development, the highest precision was also required here - both in terms of time and organisation.
Optimised project start with lead time
The ambitious project schedule required a special approach. To ensure a smooth process, the originally agreed start of assembly was brought forward without further ado. Two experienced chief fitters therefore travelled to the construction site in Herxheim near Landau (Palatinate) a week before the rest of the installation team. They carefully prepared everything on site: from checking the structural conditions to coordinating the deliveries. Their early involvement made it possible to deploy the entire team much more efficiently afterwards - a clear advantage for the process.
a logistical masterpiece: the optimum loading of the lorries
Tight space conditions - clever logistics
The delivery of the system components had to be precisely planned. The available storage space on the factory premises was very limited, so no component was allowed to arrive too early or too late. This millimetre-precise timing of the deliveries was a logistical masterpiece. The complete electrical installation also ran in parallel with the mechanical installation - both of which were carried out hand in hand by the stela departments involved.
An additional challenge: the structural conditions of the hall. Due to the position of the doors, the dryer had to be installed from the back to the front - an unusual but successful strategy.

Coordination with many participants
At the same time, several trades were working side by side on the site. To ensure that the individual teams did not get in each other's way, regular on-site coordination meetings were held by the project management - approximately every four weeks. This ensured that all work could be seamlessly integrated into the overall plan.
Teamwork as the key to success
The installation team consisted of up to ten skilled workers. Depending on progress and requirements, the team was flexibly adapted - a major advantage in order to be able to react quickly to unforeseeable situations. The close cooperation between the fitters, the project team and the electricians once again proved to be a decisive success factor.

Conclusion: Meeting deadlines despite a tight time frame
Despite the tight time frame, which was made even tighter by the complete redesign of the dryer, the project was completed on schedule and without delays.
The third part of the project series deals with the commissioning of the new drying system and the first experiences from everyday production at Steinicke.
